Climate crisis researchers are encouraging cattle ranchers to raise trees instead of cattle. They’re even offering to pay cattle ranchers for the trouble! But will it actually be effective in tackling global heating concerns? Cattle Rancher Thomas Enoff considers:
According to Patrick Brown MD PhD (professor of Biochemistry at Stanford University School of Medicine) and Michael Eisen PhD (professor of genetics at the University of California), we could collectively reverse global warming and major concerns surrounding the collapse of biodiversity. All we have to do, as Cattle Ranchers, is put the cattle raising business to the side and grow trees instead of raising cattle. It sounds bizarre; how could these two concepts possibly correlate? Cattle Rancher Thomas Enoff has taken a look at the peer-reviewed research that makes the claim that planting more trees and raising less cattle could change the world…
It’s no secret that the cattle raising industry is enduring hardships in 2024. Cattle Rancher of When Pigs Fly Farm Thomas Enoff has shared a glimpse into some of the struggles farmers are facing, here on his blog. A call for increased arborist activities and tree raising is certainly something worthwhile. But the correlation between cows and trees simply isn’t strong enough to Enoff. Calling on his research analysis skills, the farmer himself can see that there are benefits for farmers in the trees for cows raising swap. Farmers even have the potential to increase income, thanks to government support. But the truth is, not every farmer should run off and free their cows for the chance to earn extra cash from planting trees. We still need cattle ranchers and we always will! Enoff appreciates the idea of diversity across crops, from farmer to farmer. Perhaps there is substance in embracing this deal for some farmers; but some cattle ranchers are meant to be cattle ranchers, like Thomas Enoff at When Pigs Fly Farm!
